The Story
DSW Fibreglass shell in Seafoam Green with a black lacquered maple base and felt glides for hard floor.
Presented in a range of vibrant hues, Charles and Ray Eames’ DSW Fiberglass Side Chair is being specially re-released by Vitra, having not been produced since the 1990s.
Originally launched in 1950, the Fiberglass Chair Collection introduced the idea of the multifunctional chair, featuring shells that could be combined with a variety of bases, and soon became one of the best-known furniture pieces of the twentieth century.
The DSW Chair’s shell displays the characteristic irregular surface of Fiberglass, which appears almost like a natural material thanks to its clearly visible fibres.
An organic yet contemporary form, the seat rests upon a solid base with steel ‘Eiffel’ cross struts and features rubber shock mounts to support longer periods of sitting down. In continual development for the modern user, Vitra has revised the geometry of the seat to achieve optimum ergonomics and comfort.
Dimensions: 46.5cm wide, 46.5cm deep, 83cm high. seat height 43.5cm
Founded as a family firm in Switzerland in the 1950s, Vitra has grown into one of the worlds most prestigious furniture manufacturers, producing the designs of the Eames's under licence and working with the best contemporary designers to create outstanding products around the world.
